About the Society, Dunn County Historical Society

Mission
Formed in 1950, the Dunn County Historical Society seeks to discover, preserve, interpret and disseminate knowledge about the history of Dunn County and its role in Wisconsin, and to arouse interest in the past.

Membership
Become a member. As a DCHS member you'll have many exciting --- and historical --- opportunities. Explore the Russell J. Rassbach Heritage Museum located in Menomonie's Wakanda Park, or the Empire in Pine Museum in Downsville. Picnic at the Caddie Woodlawn Historical Park. Participate in the annual Fur Trade Rendezvous.

Your help is needed! Membership supports the operation of the museum, including the interpretation and proper care of many fascinating artifacts. As a society member you are invited to special events, receive a free subscription to The Dunn County Historian, receive free admission to the museums, sneak previews of new exhibits, and a 10% discount on items in the museum gift shop.

As a member you support many DCHS sponsored events. Members are encouraged to volunteer to help with sponsored events, as well as museum activities. Volunteers are needed for gardening/landscaping, staffing the gift shop, guiding tours, cataloging artifacts, and many other activities. If you would like to help, contact the historical society at 232-8685.

Current Projects

In addition to our daily operations, there are also several special projects that you can support with an additional gift. You can make one or more of these projects a success with a generous contribution.

Hilkrest School and Tainter Playhouse Relocation

Your contribution to this project will allow us to improve the exhibits in, and restore the Hilkrest one-room school and Tainter Playhouse, recently moved to our Wakanda Park campus from the Dunn Co. Fairgrounds. These exhibits will enhance our school tours and provide our other visitors opportunities to visit the exhibits beyond the county fair dates. An additional $20,000 is needed to complete the project.

Heritage Partners

The Dunn County Historical Society is seeking "Heritage Partners" to join us in our mission by supporting the services we provide to the area. Learn more here.
